Obituary for John Randall "Poochie" Morrison

Mr. John Randall Morrison, 50, of 431 Kings Grant court, Statesville, passed away at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill on Thursday, June 15, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born in Iredell County on August 8, 1966, and was the son of Sallie Dalton Morrison and the late John Kelly Morrison. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a half brother, Leonard Roseboro; two nephews, Jermaine and Jamon Nichols and an aunt, Alvis Redmond.
Affectionately called "Poochie", he attended North Iredell High School and Chestnut Grove. He loved fishing, football and baseball.
He leaves to remember and celebrate the blessing of his life his mother, Sallie Morrison of Statesville; two sons, Keylan "Koot" (Keira) Steele and Darius Houston, both of Statesville; one daughter, Annikia Steele of Harmony; his girlfriend, Tanya Houston of Statesville; three brothers, Ja-Roy (Carla) Morrison, Calvin (Liz) Morrison and Bobby (Letha) Morrison, all of Statesville; four sisters, Deborah McClelland, Rhonda (Kenneth) Turner, Gayle (Jerry) James and Sheila (Robert) Stevenson, all of Statesville; five grandchildren including Kendell Watts, Destini Watts and Keelan Watts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Rev. Jeffrey Miller will officiate and a private burial will follow. Mr. Morrison will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where members of the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of his sister, Deborah McClelland, 130 Vine Street, at other times.
