Volunteer Support Staff Information Card
The Volunteer Support Staff is composed of families and friends who have experienced the death of a loved one and would like to help others feel better.   The Volunteer Support Staff will have quarterly training sessions which will last one hour to update and inform them on new things happening at the funeral home.  These sessions will be facilitated by Funeral Home Staff.

The Volunteer Support Staff is composed of people who give unselfishly of their gifts and talents and help bring others to a place of peace during one of the most difficult times in their lives, the death of someone they love.   Sometimes it’s only a smile, a kind word or maybe just to sit and listen; however no matter what it is our support staff listens.   Volunteers are special because they give of themselves freely and they give of their hearts.

We welcome you to share with the Owners, Funeral Directors and Staff in showing your love and concern for the families in this community by becoming a part of the Volunteer Support Staff.   If anyone has questions concerning funerals or funeral related information, please feel free to ask one of the funeral directors.

The Volunteer Support Staff at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary and the Volunteer Support Staff at Clyburn and Bigham Mortuary Joins With The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to Deliver President’s Volunteer Service Award
Prestigious Award Honors Outstanding Commitment to Volunteer Service Statesville/Mooresville, N. C. The Volunteer Support Staff at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary and the Volunteer Support Staff at Clyburn and Bigham Mortuary today announced it has teamed with the White House to become a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a national program recognizing Americans who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service. Established in 2003, the Award was created by President George W. Bush to give Presidential recognition to individuals, families and groups who meet requirements for volunteer service, measured by the number of service hours performed over 12-months.

This group, The Volunteer Support Staff, through the President’s Volunteer Service Award is also now a Certifying Organization and this award is a prestigious national honor offered in recognition of sustained volunteer service.   A group created by President George W. Bush in 2003, The President’s Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.  It recognizes the valuable contributions volunteers make to our nation.  We are pleased to celebrate our Volunteers on Thursday night, April 14, 2011, at our Awards Banquet which will honor some 72 Volunteers through Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary, Inc. in Statesville and Clyburn and Bigham Mortuary, Inc. in Mooresville.  The Volunteers will receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award lapel pin, a certificate and a letter signed by President Barack Obama.

The Volunteer Support Staff is one of thousands of organizations that have joined forces to deliver the President’s Volunteer Service Award and honor the volunteers who strengthen our Nation. As a Certifying Organization for the Award, The Volunteer Support Staff is responsible for verifying service hours, nominating potential recipients and delivering the Award.

“We are extremely proud to recognize our most outstanding volunteers with the President’s Volunteer Service Award,” said Bernardeane H. Moton.  “The Volunteer Support Staff at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary, Statesville and The Volunteer Support Staff at Clyburn and Bigham Mortuary, Mooresville volunteers are role models in our community, donating their time, energy and talent to bring us closer together as neighbors and a Nation. The Award is our way of thanking these volunteers and inspiring everyone in our community to make volunteering a central part of their lives.”

“Even if you’ve never volunteered before, the President’s Volunteer Service Award is within your reach,” Bernardeane said. “There are so many ways to contribute, and every volunteer hour makes a difference in improving the quality of life for others.  We encourage everyone to get involved and to bring along your family, friends and neighbors.  Together, we can strengthen America – one hour at a time.”

President’s Volunteer Service Award Presentation
Written in honor of the Volunteer Support Staff

I Needed You, YOU Were Right There

I needed you in the mist of my grief and pain -- To help me grieve, yet, help to explain
You simply whispered,  “All His plans God does ordain”
I needed you and YOU were right there

I needed you to hold my hand -- To help me try to understand
You held my hand said “yes you can” -- I needed you, YOU were right were there

I needed you to hold me tight -- To help me understand my plight
You held me tight, with all your might, Said “Weeping only endures for a night”
I needed you, YOU were right there

I needed you to dry my tears -- You whispered, God knows, He sees, He hears
Then you dried my tears, calmed my fears
I needed you, YOU were right there

I needed you to encourage me still -- I had a void that needed to be filled
You encouraged “It will get better, have faith, it will”
I needed you, YOU were right there

I needed you to keep me calm --  You stood beside me, kept me strong
Said, “God protects from hurt and harm”
I needed you, YOU were right there

I needed you to help me grieve --  for a sweet peace I needed to achieve
You said “in time , all your pain God will  relieve”
I needed you, YOU were right there

I needed you, I was hurting, didn’t know what to do
I needed you, you were hurting, grieving too
You forgot your grief, forgot your pain
Said,” God loves you” ,as  our tears fell like rain
I needed you, YOU were right there

I needed a comforter, the help of a friend  - You were right there with a shoulder to lend
I was weak, I cried out , I needed you, You stood right by me, to see me through
I needed you, YOU  were right there

Today I know and  can plainly see what a blessing you are to everyone, to me
As you continue your labor of love; God is smiling down from Heaven above
As you touch lives in your own special way, making the world better each and every day
Establishing bonds that will never,  never end
A salute to you “kind person, compassionate friend
For when I needed you, YOU were right there!
