Obituary for Stella Viola Patterson (Davis)

Celebration of Life and Legacy of Mrs. Stella Davis Patterson

Mrs. Stella Viola Davis Patterson was born in Iredell County on March 5, 1931 to the union of the late Richard and Cordia Dalton Davis. On Sunday, November 18, 2018. She transitioned from this earthly realm into glory.

Stella was married to Paul Eugene Patterson for sixty years who preceded her in death in 2014. She was also preceded in death by brothers Opie (Maebelle)Davis, O.B. (Alberta)Davis, Nathaniel (Viola) Davis, James (Mary)Davis, Sanford (Addie) Davis, John Wesley (Kattie Bell) Davis, Lonnie (Florence) Davis, Alphonso (Cynthia) Davis, and Henry Davis; one sister, Ella Mae Davis; six brothers-in-law, John Patterson, Elmos Patterson, Charles Patterson, Frank Patterson, Govenor Patterson, and Wiley (Lillian) Patterson and a sister-in-law, Ellen Bellamy.

She received her early childhood education at Haywood Chapel School and graduated from Unity High School. She also furthered her education at the Lincoln Practitioner School of Nursing in Chicago,Illinois. For many years she was employed as a “Domestic Caretaker” for Mr. Frank and Blanche Culbreth.

Mother Patterson as she was so affectionately called loved her church! She was a faithful and devoted member of Jerusalem Pentecostal Holiness Church of Statesville North Carolina. She became a member at the age of eight years old. On any given Saturday, you could find Mother Patterson preparing the sanctuary for Sunday. She held many offices in the church. She served as the Sunday School Secretary, Assistant Secretary of the General Assembly, Assistant Fieldworker, Chairman of the Church Anniversary, head of the fellowship hall, President of the youth, secretary for Mother Steelman (founder of the church) and a member of the Executive Board. In addition to her love for her church, Mother Patterson was a matriarch for her family, she lived and lead by example.

She leaves to cherish the memories of her life, two daughters, Aral P. Galloway (Maurice) of Reidsville N.C. and Sharon J. Stamps of Statesville N.C.; her sister, Evangelist Mary Lois(Paul) Parker of Mooresville, N.C.; also remaining are her three adorable grandchildren, Gregory Keith Moss Jr., Esq. Of Youngsville, N.C., Rickie J. Stamps Jr.,United States Army Military Police of El Paso, TX and Shira C. Stamps of Houston, TX. One lovable great-grandson, Carter John Stamps of Landcaster, TX; a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors, church family and friends. Also, exceptional neighbors Mr. Russell Lackey and family.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 12:00 noon at The First Baptist Church, Garfield Street, Statesville, N. C. Rev. J. W. Brunson is Pastor, Dr. Gregory K. Moss, Sr. will officiate and Bishop Wilford Walls will eulogize. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Park. Mother Patterson will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 10:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, one hour prior to the funeral service.
