Mr. Hatchet E. Rucker (RUCK, as he was affectionately known) departed this earthly life on Friday, December 21, 2018. He was blessed with a long life and celebrated his 89th birthday on Thursday, December 20, 2018. He was born in Hartwell, Georgia, on December 20, 1929 and was the son of the late Jeffrey and Beatrice Mattox Rucker. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, BJ (Elizabeth) Rucker, who raised him, Hollis (Ruby) Rucker; two sisters, Geneva Moore, Delaney ( Joe) Holland.

Mr. Rucker was employed by the City of Statesville and Statesville Record and Landmark for several years. Hatchet’s memory will never be forgotten through his loving wife, Martha Ann Rucker of 52 years; two sisters, Ida (James) Martin, of Hartwell, Georgia; Minnie (James) Martin of Statesville; Five daughters, Martha (Luke) Simpson of Martin, Georgia, Jessie Martin of Hartwell, Georgia, Juanita Rucker and Phyllis Simpson both of Statesville, Lea Rucker of St. Louis, Missouri; three sons, Michael Rucker of the home, James Rucker of Charlotte, and Alfred Rucker of Statesville; one step daughter,Virginia Baker of the home; sixteen grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends and a host of others who helped ensure a comfortable life.
A celebration of life will be conducted on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m.. The family will receive friends 1:30- 2 pm at the church.
