Obituary for Ervin Eugene "Bert" Evans

Ervin “Burt” Eugene Evans, son of the late George Bert Evans and Laura Lee Byers Evans, was born April 14, 1931 in Iredell County. He entered into eternal rest on December 26, 2018.
Mr. Evans attended and graduated from Morningside High in Statesville, NC in 1950, where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and football. Following graduation, he went on to play semi pro basketball for the Statesville Red Raiders, and semi pro baseball for the Statesville Eagles, Blues, and Hornets. He later was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, where he trained in Fort Jackson, SC. He then was deployed to Germany during the Korean War for 18 months, where he served in the Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion. During his time in the military, he was apart of the baseball team, earning several awards for his great skills. In 1960, he was discharged and went on to work for Blue Ridge Distribution Company for several years. He then went on to work for Holly farms for approximately 5 years. During his time here, he met his late wife Lucy. He later retired from General Electric after working there for 20 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Statesville and later joined Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee, custodian, a member of the men’s, gospel, combination choirs and president of the Senior Choir, and served on the Usher Board as vice president.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lucy Evans, two brothers, (George Alfonso Evans and John Vance Knox), four sisters (Helen Mims, Francis Crawford, Pearl Chambers, and Glendora Evans), a daughter (Linda Sue), and two sons (Keith Feimster and Marvin (Renee) Saner.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life Milton (Maime) Evans, Dean Evans, Laurie Evans and special daughter Sheila Carson. Step Children Iris Bryant, James (Renee) Saner, Jarvis (Sherry) Saner, Godson Perry (Annie Mae) Dobbins. Twenty grandchildren, [Four Grandchildren and two great-grandchildren of the home: Alex Bryant, Kristen (Marvin) Morris, Kendell Morris, Zaria Little, Aaden Woods and Azaiah Morris]; twenty-four great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
