Mr. Howard Larry Keaton, Jr., 72, of 724 Harris Bridge Road, Stony Point, departed this life on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at Wake Forest Hospital. He was born in Iredell County on November 26, 1946, and was the son of the late Howard Larry Keaton and Annie Mae Keaton.

Mr. Keaton was a 1965 graduate of Unity High School. He attended Keaton Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and musician. He retired from the United States Army. Howard was honorably discharged and was also a member of the Earnest Morgan American Legion, Post 217. He was married to Linda Lackey Keaton, who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Keaton and a sister, Dorothy Maxwell, and a goddaughter, Christine Ramseur.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his wife of fifty years, Linda Lackey Keaton; one son, Robert (Lilly) Redmond of Stony Point; a daughter, Shelia ( Dameon) Houston of Stony Point; one brother, Horace Keaton of Columbus, Georgia; grandchildren, Dominic Keaton, O’Bryant Keaton, Malik Keaton, Jaiceon Houston, and Tahnyla Ramseur; pme great grandchild, Dominic Keaton, Jr.; special nieces, Nefesa (Frank) Smyre, Amber Higgins, Tameea Bruner, Tiona (Ricky) McCoy; and Flischa Daniels; nephews, Brandon (Dona) Daniels, Ryan Jerry, and Darwin (Tomeka) Campbell, all of Statesville, Charles Keaton and Patrick Keaton, both of Columbus, Georgia; in-laws, Ernest Redmond, Summerville, S.C., Larry (Tyna) Redmond and Edward Redmond both of Statesville; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Howard Larry Keaton, Jr. will be conducted Thursday, January 3, 2019, at 1:00 pm at The Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home Statesville. Reverend Modean Dunlap will officiate. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Park. Members of the family will receive friends from 12-1:00 pm.. They will assemble at the residence of at other times.
