Mr. Horace William Smith, Jr., 79, was born in Catawba County on January 15, 1940, and was the son of the late Horace William Smith, Sr., and Mary Rinehardt Smith. He departed this life on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at his residence following an extended illness.

Affectionately called, "Daddy Spike", he attended Morningside High School and was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. He also served in the U.S. Army where he was honorably discharged. Horace loved working and he will truly be missed.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Elaine Barnes Smith, who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by four sons , Garrick Watkins, Ronald K. Smith, Michael A. Smith, and Steven D. Smith; three brothers, Eugene Smith, Jody Smith, and Marlon S. Smith and one brother-n-law, Willie Coffer.
He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, a daughter, Sharon Y. Smith of the home; three brothers, Freddie Scott of Mooresville, Roger (Sandra) Smith, and Ronnie Smith, both of Statesville; two sisters, Lorna (Robert) Ramseur and Denise (Garry) Feimster, both of Statesville; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn “Pudden” McClelland and Cathy Smith, both of Statesville; two uncles, Flake Smith of New York and John Smyre of Salisbury; two aunts, Edna Steele and Barbara James, both of Statesville; one aunt-in-law, Cynthia Carson of Statesville; ten grandchildren, Torrey (Tonika) Miller, Keisha Smith, Ronald “Ron” Smith Jr., Stevie D. (Jacolia) Smith, Tanita Bennett, Tyreik McLean, Shamika Stevenson, Travis Barnes, Marquita Moore, and Shanita Howell; twenty one great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; a special friend, Cortez Spann of Statesville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
A Celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Monday, February 18, 2019,1:00 p.m., at Calvary Presbyterian Church. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12:30-1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at all other times.
