Mrs. Velma Reese Moore Heaggans, 82, of Statesville passed away into eternal peace on March 11, 2019, at the Gordon Hospice House, following an extended illness. She was born in Iredell County on October 22, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Almer Lee Moore and Clearena Mc Combs Moore. On January 20, 1957, Velma married the love of her life, Charlie “Uncle Sam” Heaggans, for fifty nine years they were united in marriage, whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Moore; a sister Fannie Misher; a sister-in-law, Catherine Heaggans; a grandson, Oliver Tyrone Heaggans; and two great granddaughters, Aubrey Heaggans and Corena Peet.

Mrs. Velma was a graduate of Unity High School Class of 1955. Velma was a faithful member of Mt Tabor Presbyterian Church, where she was a served on the Usher Board. Mrs. Velma worked at Shover Chair Co. and retired from Kewaunee Scientific Corporation after twenty years of service.
She leaves to mourn her daughters, Rita Heaggans, Charlette Harrell, and Teresa Smith, all of Statesville, her sons, Craig (Rheda) Heaggans of Belleville IL, Bernard (Deborah) Heaggans, Michael (Sherry) Heaggans Anthony Reddick of Statesville NC, Charles Wayne (Vanessa) Heaggans of Cleveland NC; a sister & best friend Janice Cowan; a brother, Bobby (Helen) Moore; an aunt, Shirley Sherrill; a brother-in-law, Joseph (Dorothy) Heaggans; six sisters-in-law, Onevva Heaggans, Alfredia (Robert) Blackwell, Melzetta Heaggans of Troutman NC, Gladys (George) Stevenson, Karee Heaggans, Vernie (John) Smith of Cleveland NC; fourteen grandchildren, Jeremiah (Candace) Heaggans, Lanae (Tim) Mcdaniels, Shanita (Kevin) Peet, Tawanna (Aaron) Coward, Lakisha (Rodney) Hall, Michael Hayden, Joshua Heaggans, Ronald Heaggans, Dimiri Heaggans, Warren Heaggans, Shontay Ramseur, Wykesha Smith, Deshawn Heaggans, Chestean Harrell; thirty-one great grandchildren, Jeremiah Heaggans Jr, Jamiah Heaggans, Makiah Heaggans, Trennon Heaggans, Komora Heaggans, Gabriel Heaggans, Malaysia Hall Laketia Adams, Janae Adams, Briana Everhart, Alterek Adams, Courtney Coward, Cyneisha Coward, Tracy Reddick, Treasean Reddick, Jeremiah McMillian, Marketa Turner, Janiya Davis, Arianya Mayfield, Dominica Blair, Donovan Blair, Jamirica Everhart, Janayasisa Everhart, Jalaya Everhart, Judaih Everhart, Jalen Heaggans, Syncere Heaggans, Nikyla Heaggans, Chakiris Ramseur, Khaliq Ramseur, Trae Heaggans, Cary’ona Phifer; two great great grandchildren: Jayden McMillian, Harmonie Lynn; a special friend, Shelia Holmes; and a host of nephews, nieces, including two special nieces,Lenora Reid and Donna Heaggans; cousins, including a special cousin, Mary Lawrence church family, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
A celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Mt. Tabor Church, Cleveland, N.C.. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 11:30-12:00 p.m., with Reverend Porter officiating. The family will assemble at 873 8th Street, Statesville at all other times.
