Mr. Alfred Bernard Holmes, affectionately called “Head”, was born in Iredell County on October 6, 1959, and was the son of Nadean Woods Holmes and the late R. L. Sloan. He departed this life on Saturday, March 16, 2019, following an automobile accident.

He graduated from Statesville High School in 1979 and at the time of his death was attending Miracle Tabernacle. He was married to Yvonne Fuller Holmes, who survives. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his adopted father, David "Little Dave" Bowman.
In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves to cherish the memory of his life, two brothers, Michael “Kip” Woods of Statesville and Walter Woods of New York; five sisters, Stephanie (Fred) Gibson, Cynthia (Kevin) Holmes, Adrian “Poochie” Miller, and Sherry Mattox, all of Statesville, Alecia (Jerome) Latimer of Salisbury and Rhonda Holmes of Charlotte; an aunt, Joyce Brown of Statesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019, at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Members of the family will receive friends (2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.) one hour prior to the service, but will assemble at the residence of a sister, Sherry Mattox, 360 Holland Drive, Statesville, at other times.
