Mrs. Lillie Wyatt Malloy Brown, 83, was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on November 21, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Malloy, Sr. and Rachel Wilson Malloy. She passed away at Novant Health in Salisbury on Monday, May 13, 2019.
She was a graduate of I. C. Norcum High School in Portsmouth, Virginia and received three degrees, an Associate in Applied Science, an Associate in Fine Arts – Art and an Associate in General Education, from Mitchell Community College in Statesville, North Carolina. She retired from the State of New Jersey as a Health Care Provider in New Lisbon, New Jersey at the New Lisbon Developmental Center. Her love for art, drawing and writing was evident and she was a creative person. She received many honors and awards for her art. She enjoyed cooking and at one time owned her own restaurant, Lillie’s Country Kitchen in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. She was a member of the ERAME Chapter No. 62, OES – PHA, Subordinate Chapter of Oziel Grand Chapter, Willingboro, NJ 08046
She was united in marriage on June 22, 1953, to James Cleveland Brown, Sr. for over sixty five years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Timothy P. Brown, her grandson, Michael J. Brown; and her siblings, Barbara Malloy Thomas, Eileen Malloy Parker and David Malloy.
Left to remember and cherish the blessing of her life in addition to her husband, James Cleveland Brown, Sr. of the home; her son, James Cleveland Brown, Jr. of Mooresville; daughters, Jewell Diane Brown of Mooresville and Melva Shenise Metoyer of Alexandria, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Marie P. Brown of Willingboro, New Jersey; three brothers, Joseph “Joe” (Katherine) Malloy of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mark (Stacey) Malloy of Clinton, Maryland and William “Bill” Malloy of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one sister, Althea (John, III) Allen of Virginia Beach, Virginia; adopted son, Dr. Eric (Jeanette) Johnson of Mt. Holly, New Jersey; her grandchildren, Faye Brown, Amanda Brown, Megan Brown, Brandon Wilson, James Brown, Joshua Brown, Andrea Tademy, Tiana Brown, Monica Phyall and Candice Mason; eleven great grandchildren; godchildren, Tony and Debra Moore; several nieces and nephews including a niece, Carla Parker of Portsmouth, Virginia; a cousin, Barbara Freeman of Philadelphia, Pa.; a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, Munday Road, Statesville, N. C. Mrs. Brown will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 10:30 a.m., but will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Rev. Sterling Howard will officiate.
