Mr. James Herbert Thomas III, affectionately known as “Hankie”, was born in Iredell County on May 10, 1971, and was the son of James (Bud) Herbert Thomas, Jr., and the late Mae Royal “Poochie” White Thomas. He departed this life on Monday, May 20, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House, Statesville.
Hankie was educated at West Iredell High School and at an early age attended St. John Baptist Church. He was a journeyman electrician working with his dad, James Thomas of Thomas and Thomas Electric in Statesville , N.C.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his father, James “Bud” Herbert Thomas, Jr. of Troutman; one son, Jamaree Dajour Thomas of Statesville; two sisters, Tiny (Raymond) Templeton and Dionne Lazenby; one nephew, Jason Tenor of Charlotte; one niece, Jenee Tenor of Durham; aunts and uncles Juanita (James) Houpe of Statesville, Audrey Thomas Flemmings of Troutman, Faye ( William) Minor of Jamestown, Susan Stevenson, Brenda Lowe, Margie White, and Gail White, all of Statesville; two great aunts, Mildred Thomas and Muril Thomas; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Zion Wesley AME Zion Church at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend David Smalls will officiate and Reverend Shelia Chambers will eulogize. Members of the family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at the church and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
