Mr. Leonard Jerrod Kinney, III, of 693 Upper Grassy Branch, Asheville, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 21, 2019, following an automobile accident. He was born in Iredell County on April 25, 1992, and was the son of Leonard Kinney, Jr. and Shelly Laverne Scales Kinney. He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony J. Kinney, his maternal grandfather, Johnny Scales; his maternal step-grandmother, Margie Smith and his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Maggie Parker and Beulah Mae Bellamy Atako.

He was educated at West Iredell High School and attended Mitchell Community College and Everest College. He also attended Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Leonard “Naughty” and Shelley Kinney, he is survived by three sisters, Lasasha Kinney and Nichelle Kinney (Charles) Raines, both of Statesville and Ashley Kinney of Troutman; his nieces and nephews, Adreama Kinney, Deyontae Kinney, Mahlek Raines, Mikko Raines, Charity Raines and Mariah Raines, all of Statesville; honorary brothers, Devin Grimes, Antione (Clarrisa) Heaggans, and Marvin (Ashley) Heaggans; honorary sisters, Ebony Stinson, Shasta Chambers and Reanna Grady; an honorary Aunt, Shannon Morrison; honorary grandparents, Tyrone and Peggy Morrison; his godmother, Tammy Hunter; grandmother, Angela F. Berry; grandparents, Leonard and Annie Kinney; great grandmother, Beatrice Scales; aunts and uncles, Tyrone Parker, Kizlar Kinney, Carlos (Sharon) Berry, Cassandra (Keith) Scales, Desmine (TeTe) Smith and Romeika (Eric) Smith; and a host of cousins including Aniyah Heaggans, Arinna Heaggans, Antione Heaggans, Marceanna Heaggans, Makayla Heaggans, Alayshya Brown, Malayag Heaggans, Faith Heaggans and Janae Brown, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church in Statesville. Reverend Dietrich M. Danner, pastor, will officiate and Rev. James Rowdy will eulogize. Mr. Kinney will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12:30 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of his parents, 145 Carriage Road, Statesville, at other times.
