Marquise Maurice Dukes, 21, of 644 Mt. Bethel Road, Harmony, was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on April 11, 1998. He was the son of Freda Yvette Garland Sherman and Edward Danete Dukes. He departed this life on Wednesday, May 26, 2019, in Lake Glenville.
He was a 2016 graduate of North Iredell High School and was a Junior at Western Carolina University. He was a member of Visions Outreach and was employed by Ingles as a Deli Worker. He was preceded in death by his son, Maliah Dukes; his grandmother, Marlene Dukes; and his maternal grandfather, Fred Sherman.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life his mother, Freda Y. Sherman of the home; his father, Edward Dante (Eleanor “Sue) Dukes of Philadelphia, Pa; his step-father, Edward George Fray of Statesville; his girlfriend, Kimberlee Chun of Elkin; his siblings, Danete Dukes, Eddie Fray, and Eliana Fray, all of the home, Zavier Dukes, Zachary Dukes and Ziya Dukes, all of Philadelphia, Pa; his grandparents, Mildred C. (Larry) Smith, Eddie Pendergrass, Fay Christabell Campbell, Larry Smith, Sr. and Lindsay Thomas; a host of aunts and uncles including James “Teddy” Davi, Larry Smith, Ingrid “Joy” (Fern) Fray and Demetris (Shaterri) Dukes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at North Iredell High School of Performing Arts Center. Pastor James F. Hunter will officiate and burial will follow in the Mulberry Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Elkin, N. C. Mr. Dukes will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the Auditorium to lie in state at 12:30 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church at 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
