Mr. Elzie Carter Leach, 79, of Hartwell, Georgia was born in Iredell County on April 13, 1940. He was the son of the late John and Naomi Barber Leach. He departed this life on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the University Medical Center in Hartwell, Georgia.

Elzie attended Morningside High School. He met his soul mate, Sula Teasley in 1968. They lived together for fifty-one years and were married for twenty-six years. Sula preceded him in death. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Barber; one brother, John Barber; two step-sons, Willie Teasley and Vernon Teasley; one stepdaughter, Louise Williams; grandchildren, Chadwick, Melissa, and Chris and great grandchildren, Emmanuel and Nicole.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life his sister, Frances B. Patterson; his step-children, Elizabeth (Louis) Young of Statesville, Kennedy Teasley and Joe Teasley, both of Salisbury, Freddie Teasley, Michael (Debra) Teasley, Nettie Teasley, Peggy Teasley, Linda Neely, Wanda Teasley, Patricia (Willie) Buford, all of Statesville, Calvin Teasley, Gwendolyn (Albert Simpson) Hill and Roy Teasley, all of Hartwell, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Barber and Freda Renwick, both of Statesville, Sheila (Sebastian) Roberts of Winston-Salem, Felicia Barber of Statesville, Angela Barber and Barry Barber of Georgia, Woof Westmoreland and Jerome Westmoreland, both of Statesville; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Friday, June 7, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of a niece, Lelicia Barber, 3709 Taylorsville Highway, at other times.
