April Elizabeth Gabriel passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, unexpectedly. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa on April 26, 1982, and was the daughter of Roberta Carter Gabriel and the late Carlos Leonard Gabriel. She was preceded in death by a sister, Erika Gabriel and a friend, Shamekia Reid.
She was a graduate of Mitchell Community College where she received an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and also received a Medical Assistant Degree from Pinnicle Career Institute of Missouri. At one time, she was employed by the Day Care at Statesville Christian Center (now Statesville Covenant Cathedral) and at the time of her death, she was employed by Davis Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed reading and her favorite color was pink. Spending time with her family was important and she loved all of them. Her favorite food was seafood and loved Red Lobster and King of the Sea. She was a former member of Fellowship Tabernacle.
In addition to her mother, Roberta D. Gabriel of Statesville she leaves to cherish the memory of her life her fiancé, Brandon Torrence of the home; her son, De’Andre Malik Gabriel of the home; her sister, Carmen Marie Gabriel of Chicago, Illinois; a nephew and niece she helped to raise, Kirsean Gabriel and Aeriyana Summers, both of Statesville; her godchildren, Niahe Arye Torrence and Brandon Malik Torrence, both of the home; two uncles, Robert Edmunds and Richard “RB” Edmunds, both of Pittsburgh, Pa.; her god sisters, Stephanie Lynn Wyatt-Gabriel of Chicago, Illinois, Michelle Bigbee Thomas of Tennessee, Ebony Lane of Michigan and Talitha Weekes of Massachusetts; two great aunts, Alma Burgess of Pittsburgh, Pa and Patricia Gabriel Haskins of New Jersey; and a host of other relatives, co-workers and friends. We Love You!!
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Thursday, July 18, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Overseer James Hamilton will officiate and Minister Audrey Houpe will eulogize. Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Members of the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, but will assemble at the residence at other times.
