David Richard Hawthorne, 68, of Statesville, formerly of Bluefield, West Virginia, was born on March 26, 1951, in Mercer County, West Virginia and was the son of the late Marion Hawthorne. He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, august 20, 2019, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville, North Carolina.

He was a High School graduate and was a former employee of Sure Tape and Tyson Foods. At the age of thirteen, David began playing guitar, singing and traveling with the West Virginia Golden Voices. He sang with them for many years until moving to Wilkesboro, North Carolina in 1990. David was a former Choir President of New Zion Church. He was a member of the Gospel Echoes of Taylorsville, North Carolina. David was a Quartet Man that blessed many with his guitar and high falsetto voice. Although a stroke prevented his guitar playing in 2008, he still sang and praised the Lord. In 2013, David started receiving dialysis which led to other health issues on his journey. Even after this medical conditions worsened, he always interceded for others in prayer.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Jones.
Those left with cherished memories are his wife, Bernice Hawthorne of the home; his sons, David Hawthorne, Jr. and wife, Kisha of Taylorsville and Michael Hawthorne of Statesville; his daughters, Michelle Hawthorne of Winston-Salem and Cynthia Hawthorne of Statesville, N. C.; one sister, Judy Manns of Winston-Salem, N. C.; one brother, Charles Hawthorne of Bluefield, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Kalique Collins, Ahjanaye Collins, Krislynn Hawthorne, Alexis Smith, Lia Hawthorne and Aaliyah Feimster; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many loving friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, 603 South Center Street, Statesville, North Carolina. Reverend Charles Hawthorne will officiate and Dr. Lonnie E. Gray will eulogize. Mr. Hawthorne will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where members of the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
