Mrs. Roberta Lowery Portlock, 79, of 1109 Zion Ct. Charlotte, was born in Mecklenburg County on October 12, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Napoleon Theadore Lowery, Sr. and the late Alberta Blackwelder Lowery. She departed her life on Monday, September 2, 2019, at her home following an extended illness.
On June 23, 1958 she married the love of her life Thomas Elijah Portlock who preceded her in death on March 10, 2015. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Marcus Portlock, three grandsons, Dewayne Doster, Thomas Jay Portlock "Jay Bird” and Marcus McFadden; one brother, Douglas Edward Lowery two sisters, Virginia Lowery Alexander and Gladys Lowery Smith.
Roberta graduated from Dunbar High School where she was a majorette. She was a faithful member of the Mission Church of Lord Jesus Christ. She was a loving family woman who enjoyed vacationing to the beach with her husband “Tom.” Above all she loved the Lord as well as her church family.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, two sons Reginald (Sonjie) Portlock, Thomas Angelo (Alice) Portlock both of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Alexis (David) Williams, Candice Portlock, Orlando (Mary) McFadden, Rasan Portlock, Brittany Portlock and Brianna Portlock all of Charlotte; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers Napoleon Theadore (Phyllis) Lowery, Jr. and Allan (Grace) Lowery, Ray Lo Mccllean (Esther), four sisters Dorothy Lowery Reid of Washington D.C., Meryline Lowery Wilson, Beryline Lowery Gray and Sylvia D. Lowery all of Statesville N.C.; one sister-in-law, Alberta (Al) Anderson of Charlotte; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Portlock of Charlotte; two God-Daughters, Likuana Lowery Mozer of El Paso TX. and LaWanda Smith Alexandra VA.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Mission Church of Lord Jesus Christ 3039 Amay James Ave, Charlotte, NC 28208. Bishop Aaron Raley will officiate, and she will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Beattis Ford Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Portlock will remain at A. E. Grier & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 11:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. but will assemble at the residence at other times. A. E. Grier & Sons Funeral Home of Charlotte is serving the family of Mrs. Roberta Lowery Portlock.
