Mr. Herman Bines, 71, was born in Shelby on February 13, 1947, and was the son of the late Nelson Bines and Pearlene Scott Bines. He passed away on September 3, 2019, at the Carolina Caring Hospice in Newton following an extended illness.
He attended schools in Shelby and at one time by Hickory White Furniture as a machine operator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Mintz Bines; a son, Raymond Lee Bines; one step-daughter, Gloria Moss; one sister, Alberta Watkins; four brothers, Ezel Bines, Isaiah Bines, Billie Bines and Henry Bines; two brothers-in-law, Donald Phelps and Hawatha Odom.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his children, Herman Lee Bines of Newton, Stephanie Schenck of Lincolnton, Michelle Bristol, Sheana King, Dorothy (Stephen) Imes, Rosa (Michael) Glover, Robert (Sandra) Cowan, Mary (Rickey) Austin, Willie Shuford and Raymond (Minnie) Leach, all of Statesville; his siblings, Barbara (Sonny) Clark and Dianne Bines, both of Statesville, Inez Bines of Greensboro, Harvey Gene (Bennie) Bines of Vale, Steve Bines and Marcella Odom, both of Statesville; fifty-one grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In tears we saw you sinking, and watched you fade away
Our hearts were almost broken, we wanted you to stay.
But when we saw you sleeping, so peacefully and free from pain
How could we wish you back with us to suffer that again.
It breaks our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Belmont Cemetery.
