John 14:1-3 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me; In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself: that where I am ye may be there also.

Mary L. Fletcher Scott, 94, departed this life on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, in Savannah Georgia. She was born in Statesville, North Carolina on April 8, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Rufus and Della Fletcher.

She was best known as “Sis,” Sister Scott, Mother, Mommy, Mom, Ma, and during her time in Statesville, Aunt Sis. She was married to the late Joseph Scott, Sr., who preceded her in death. After her husband’s return from World War II, they married in 1950, and moved to Harrisburg, Pa., where they resided for 69 years.

She was educated in the Iredell County Schools and she worked as a Culinary Assistant in the Harrisburg School System. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a Domestic Engineer Evening Supervisor at the State Capitol of Pennsylvania.

She joined Mt. Zion, C.O.G.I.C. in Harrisburg and became a true loyal and faithful servant, serving on the Ways and Means Committee and an Usher also serving on local and state events. After her retirement she moved back to Statesville and joined Holsey Memorial C.M.E Church, where she served as an Usher.

Mary and Joseph were blessed with two sons and five daughters. She lives to cherish the memory of her life, two sons, Gene Fletcher of Los Angeles, CA, and Joseph Scott, Jr., of Harrisburg, PA; three daughters, Atholia “Kitty” Scott of Savannah, GA, Paulette Scott of Harrisburg, PA and Carnelia “Sugie” Scott Byrant of Savannah, GA; seven grandchildren; with the oldest blessed, beloved first granddaughter, Tonya R. Brown (Ephrainah G. Chayil) of Hinesville, GA; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces nephews and a special nephew, “June Bug” Reverend William Scott, who she always said would preach her Home Going Services, cousins other relative and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Reverend William Scott will officiate and burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Park. Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
